"Always grab the reader by the throat in the first paragraph,
sink your thumbs into his windpipe in the second, and hold him against the wall
until the tag line."

HIRE PHIL ELMORE
I
offer professional services to individuals and businesses. I am a skilled
technical writer with a decade of experience. Frequently I receive
e-mail inquiries about services offered through
PhilElmore.com, so I've grouped these in a general
question-and-answer format.
What services can I buy from you?
You can hire me to perform technical writing, copywriting, ghostwriting, editing, proofreading, and editorial consulting. I can create anything you require, from a biography to an advertisement to a novel to an editorial. If you wish to collaborate on a project, I can help you. If you need a ghostwriter because you have an idea but can't put it into words, I can help you. If you've written something but need it edited and proofed, I can help you.
What do you charge?
My rates are completely flexible and I am willing to work around your schedule – provided you can work around mine. I usually charge a flat rate, but if you wish to pay for pages of output or on an hourly basis, we can work that out, too. I have a fairly extensive list of freelance clients, but I am always looking for more work. I get bored when I am not busy and I absolutely love working with the written word.
I've seen you arguing with people online, haven't I?
I publish an online magazine called The Martialist, though I also write on a freelance basis for other magazines (including several in the martial arts field). As anyone involved in online editorializing and the martial arts knows, one is bound to end up pleasing some camps and angering others. Take everything you read with a grain of salt.
How good are you at your job?
My role is that of communicator. I have been employed full-time as a technical writer for a decade. I finished my first novel, Demon Lord, in 1998. I began writing editorials and humor online several years ago. I write extremely well and I have a good eye for editing.
I picked up a book at the bookstore the other day and you were listed as one of the editors. I found several typos. Your novel has some typos in it, too. You're not as thorough as you say you are, are you?
Actually, I have been one of several editors to work on numerous projects and have been credited more than once for these activities. I do not, however, have final control over the versions of the books that go to print. Many times the material I've seen and the resulting publication have been very different.
If you're wondering if I can do the job you require, just submit material to me and I'll send you a free sample of my treatment of it (whether you need editing or restructuring or something original written from source material). Also, keep in mind that I write online in a much more conversational, informal style than I do when performing work for clients.
Where my own writing is concerned, I will say simply that it is notoriously difficult to edit one's own original work. I, too, sometimes need the services of professional writers and editors. I can, however, do an excellent job for you – and I'm happy to demonstrate that fact by working with you on a probationary basis.
I'm thinking of hiring a writer but I don't know if you'd think my project is worth it.
There is no project I will not consider – and no communication task with which I cannot help you. Please contact me via e-mail to inquire about rates, writing assignments, joint projects, and any other writing services in which you are interested. I believe you'll find me to be cooperative, friendly, professional, and more than happy to work with you.
